about

sky burial / black shift emerged from a series of sound rituals, the work grappling with grief, birth and rebirth, and constant flux of nature. Forged remotely during a time of mass societal shift, weighty narcotic bass drones by Lewis Young (The Leaf Library, Beneather) and long-time collaborator Ben Smith, meet conjuring prose by Emily Mary Barnett (Far Rainbow) and panoramic textures from sound artist Aino Tytti.

B̶O̶A̶ R̶E̶S̶A̶ have only met in-person once, on a hillside, during which a ritual took place. Items of burnt detritus from that ritual, limited to 23 editions, will be available as an object release.

The project is intended for playback within a multi-speaker ambisonic environment, but can also be experienced in stereo.
